Hanging Walls
The Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, contain some of the most spectacular sandstone cliffs in the world. A long time haven for bushwalkers, this area is full of surprises and the view of this cliff is perhaps one of the best in the area. It's in a place far from walkways and signs and safety fences, and if you manage to get here you will be rewarded with a heart-stopping view that feels like you are on a journey to the centre of the earth. To take this photograph, Damon was literally sitting on a cliff edge with his feet and camera dangling over a 300m drop. He had waited for a specific day of the year when the morning sun would hit the right hand cliff and reflected light would illuminate the normally dark left hand cliff. In a 40 minute window of opportunity, Damon managed to get one exposure on his landscape camera. You now see the results here, the culmination of an idea that had been gestating for over 30 years.
