Silhouette of the Monoliths
Kata Tjuta presents many faces and Damon was determined to find a way to demonstrate the form and character of this amazing rock formation that was not typical of a normal daylight view. The issue then was of finding a suitable vantage point and this involved many hours of walking through the dunes and spinifex. All appeared to be lost when heavy cloud moved in from the west. The afternoon became grey and dismal. Long after most people would have packed up and gone home Damon continued to wait in the now cold desert evening. Finally the setting sun's rays shone briefly up from behind Kata Tjuta illuminating the underside of the approaching storm cloud. In the brief moment when the light was at its most intense Damon tripped the shutter and captured Kata Tjuta lying in powerful repose beneath a spectacular sunset.
