Three valleys, all surrounded by World Heritage listed mountains, exemplify the wild nature of Tasmania’s southern forests. The upper Florentine Valley is an untouched area of verdant rainforest, topped with magnificent tall eucalypts and interspersed with heath lands and button-grass ridges. Eastwards, the tallest hardwoods in the world grow in the Styx Valley. To the south, the Weld Valley is one of the finest pristine forested valleys that remain in Tasmania. Dramatic ridges and rainforest gullies extend from the remote Weld River to the alpine zones of Mt Anne, Mt Weld and the Snowy Range. Nature Photographers Tasmania, a newly created professional organisation, highlights the extraordinary character of wild forests in the Florentine, Styx and Lower Weld Valleys.
